What is your favorite thing about UML?

I would like to get my master's in chemistry and become a forensic scientist.
What has being involved with the RHSA meant to you?
Being in the RHSA has helped me feel like I am a part of something bigger than myself and what I am studying. I am being supported by a large number of people who has either been or is which gives me an outlet to talk about troubles or reach out when I need help!
Looking back, what advice would you give to yourself in your first year of college?
I would tell myself to reach out for help a lot more because I was very shy and felt like I was a burden by asking for help. The RHSA team never makes you feel like a burden, and it is their main goal to help students feel good about going to college.
What advice would you give fellow students?
Reach out to the RHSA team or peer leaders whenever you need help on something, no matter how little. Use the resources that the school provides and ask mentors for specific resources you may need like tutoring, wellbeing, and others too. If you feel like you are alone in your journey, just remember you have a big family of RHSA members willing to help and support you!
Why did you choose to attend UMass Lowell?
I chose to attend UMass Lowell because it felt like a big community, and it had the best program for my career pathway.
What does it mean to you to be a first-generation college student?
Being a first-generation college student to me is so much more than feeling isolated and scared. It may be those things at times when not given enough support but it is also making yourself and your family proud, breaking generational barriers, and doing something for myself that I know I will benefit from and appreciate when I am older.
What inspires you to want to help first-generation students in the RHSA?
What inspires me is remembering how lost I felt going into college and how much help and support I ended up feeling once I joined the Riverhawk Scholars. I want everyone to feel that support and kindness that I felt entering this program and ensure that they have a big family behind them that is there for them when needed.
