On November 18, 2024, leaders gathered to launch the $5.7 million Clean Energy and Environment Legacy Transition (CELT) Initiative, uniting universities, state agencies, communities, and industries across Massachusetts to advance clean energy equity and workforce training.

The Healey-Driscoll Administration has launched the Clean Energy and Environment Legacy Transition (CELT) Initiative, a groundbreaking program inspired by successful Irish university-industry partnerships. UMass Lowell and Boston University will partner to advance clean energy solutions, support municipal decarbonization, and expand geothermal workforce development.

UMass Lowell's Rist Institute for Sustainability and Energy will lead the establishment of two fellowship cohorts: one placing graduate students in the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs’ Office of Energy Transformation to support advancing networked geothermal systems, and another embedding fellows within municipalities to assist local governments in clean energy projects.

Boston University's Institute for Global Sustainability will lead the charge in providing crucial data to communities. CELT underscores Massachusetts' leadership in sustainability, ensuring equitable energy transitions that benefit both residents and the economy.
