F-1 students on STEM OPT have many reporting requirements to adhere to. It is integral that you fully understand the reporting requirements so that you maintain your STEM OPT status. Please keep in mind that H-1b petitions and other change of status petitions may be denied due to failure to report, or incorrect reporting while on STEM Extension. Students on STEM Extension must report their current employer every six months. The six month reporting e-form can be found on the Forms webpage of the ISSO website. Students will need to confirm:
In addition to reporting current employer information each six months, students must complete a one-year evaluation after having been on STEM Extension for one year, as well as a final evaluation if their STEM Employment is terminated OR at the completion of the STEM period. In case of loss/termination of employment, the student is legally responsible to update by email to: firstname.lastname@example.org within 10 days of the termination and submit a Final Evaluation on the Form I-983.
The student must report any new STEM employment AND submit a NEW Form I-983 within 10 days of receiving this employment. The student should update their new employment via the STEM Employer E-form found on the Forms webpage of the ISSO website.
