Facility & Equipment Rentals

Are you or your group looking to rent a Campus Recreation facility or specific activity area? The CRC has a meeting room, aerobic studios, multipurpose courts, recreation turf fields, tennis courts, and more! Review the various options below.

Student Groups

All non-club sport student groups and organizations should go through the Office of Student Activities and Leadership to make your groups CRC space request. Check with your club program advisor or email student_activities@uml.edu for more details.

If you are looking to rent our sports equipment for your event, please use our online request form to make your initial request in addition to notifying the Office of Student Activities and Leadership.

Faculty/Staff

All faculty and staff should submit their Campus Recreation space requests through the online Book-It Form. For instructions and more information, visit the Book-It form webpage!

Outside Organizations (Non-UML Groups)

Campus Recreation rents facility space to outside groups during low use times. Rental groups are required to sign a user agreement as well as provide the university with a liability insurance binder naming UMass Lowell as additionally insured. We provide free equipment rentals* for all Campus Recreation patrons. Simply bring your UCARD or CRC Member ID to our welcome desk at the Campus Recreation Center (CRC) or fitness center desk in the Riverview Fitness Center (RFC) to check out and return equipment. Examples include:

• Locks + Towels
• Hairdryer
• Small Fitness Equipment + Accessories
  • Resistance Bands, Ab Wheel, Weight Belt, Hand Wraps, Wrist Straps, Tiger's Tail, Cones, Ladders, Jump Ropes, etc.

Inside the CRC you can also check out several types of sports equipment to use inside the CRC or outside on our mini turf in front of the CRC or inside the Campus Recreation Complex on Aiken Street. Available items include:

• Lap Counters
• Basketballs, Soccer Balls, Volleyballs, Footballs, Frisbees
• Pugg Soccer Nets (use outside on turf fields)
• Ping Pong + Pool Equipment
• Racquetball + Squash gear
• Wallyball Ball + Net (use inside Racquetball courts)
• Tennis Equipment

Please note: damaged or lost equipment is subject to replacement fee.

Overnight Locker Rentals

Patrons can rent overnight lockers inside our CRC locker rooms. This is in addition to our CRC free daily use locker options. A personal lock (or built-in mechanical lock) is provided with rental fee. Lockers are on a first come, first serve basis, limited number available. Sign up inside the CRC. Current rental options and fees are as follows:

Rentals

All rates include paddle(s), life jackets (PFDs) and basic safety instruction.

Single Kayaks and stand-up paddle (SUP) boards are suitable for one adult or teen. Tandem Kayaks and Canoes are suitable for two adults and 1-2 small children.

Season and Monthly Passes

We encourage paddlers to come regularly to the UML Boathouse and get out on the water in our kayaks and canoes. Our season and monthly passes are a great bargain for people looking to spend a lot of time on the water! Discounts on guided tours and shuttles, as well!

shuttlesShuttles with Rental

We offer a shuttle to just above the Tyngsboro bridge, so you can rent boats, we'll drive you upstream, and you can enjoy a leisurely paddle back down to the Boathouse. This trip generally takes about 3 hours of paddling, or longer if you choose to paddle upstream first. Registrations are available for single or tandem boats. Plenty of parking at the Boathouse to leave your car. Please check out our Shuttle Services webpage to register.

Custom shuttle: If you have a group of six or more, you can book with us to rent boats and shuttle your group upriver to the Tyngsboro Bridge on your own schedule. We may have alternate locations for a more gung-ho group! Read more and reserve your space at our Shuttle Services webpage.

• Cost for Tyngsboro Shuttle: Full day rental $50 Single Kayak or SUP / $70 Tandem Kayak or Canoe

Payment

We accept credit card payments only, or debit cards that can be processed as a credit card.

Sorry we cannot accept: American Express cards or cash.

All rentals are subject to sales tax. Rentals not returned will be assessed at the full retail price of equipment. We ask that you provide a valid ID and a credit card number as collateral to rent a boat.

Reservations

Boats and boards may be reserved ahead of time by filling out the Kayak Center Rentals Request form or calling the Kayak Center during open hours at 978-934-5690.

If you plan to go on your own adventure, but do not own your own gear, borrow ours! We have all that you need to stay warm, dry and cozy over night. Our rentals are open to the UMass Lowell community as well as public.

Make a Reservation

To make a reservation you can contact us by email: Freewheelers@uml.edu or phone 978-934-6797 at least 2-3 days prior to your trip if possible.

Equipment Pick Up and Return

Equipment may be picked up and returned at the Outdoor Center and Bike Shop, 5 Lawrence Drive Lowell, Mass. during open hours:

• Monday - Friday: 1-8 p.m.
• Saturday: 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.
• *Hours may change during holidays and school closures. 

Rental Policy

Renters are responsible for equipment while it is in their possession. It is the responsibility of the renter to pay repair or replacement costs incurred should the equipment be stolen, lost, or damaged. Fees will be charged for late, excessively dirty, and/or wet equipment. Late fees are 1.5x the daily rental rate for each day past due. Equipment is subject to a two-week assessment period upon the return of damaged, excessively dirty and wet equipment. Fee payments are due within two weeks of the assessment.
