There are two types of scholarships awarded by the Kennedy College of Sciences: Dean's Scholarships and Endowed Scholarships. Additional information regarding scholarship opportunities within the University of Massachusetts is available at The Solution Center.
Dean’s Scholarships are awarded during the admissions process and students do not apply directly for these.
Endowed Scholarships are possible through the generosity of our alumni and friends. Specific scholarship criteria and the application/selection processes vary by award. The College solicits applications for these awards directly from the eligible student body. These scholarships include:
The Dr. Edward Lawson Alexander Scholarship Fund provides a fellowship in the name of Dr. Edward Larson Alexander to a student who has demonstrated outstanding scholarly achievement and commitment to the Radiological Sciences Program.
The Choe Endowed Scholarship provides scholarships to students majoring in computer science, mathematical sciences, or biological sciences at UMass Lowell.
The C. Daniel Cole Endowed Physics Scholarship Fund provides scholarships for students pursuing a degree in physics.
The Computer Science 25th Anniversary Fund provides scholarships for students pursuing an undergraduate degree in computer science.
Provides a scholarship to full-time undergraduate students in the Meteorology and Atmospheric Science Major with a GPA of 2.5 or higher.
The “Crossing the Merrimack” Endowed Scholarship Fund provides a scholarship to an incoming freshman from Lowell High School who plans to major in biological sciences.
The Roland E. Derby Endowment Fund provides scholarships to sophomore students who are candidates for degrees in Chemistry, Textile Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering.
The Bryon Drigian Memorial Scholarship Fund provides scholarships in the Computer Science program.
The El-Hefni Technical Training Foundation Endowed Scholarship Fund provides scholarships to financially disadvantaged and minority UMass Lowell Students pursuing a degree in the fields of engineering, computer science, or mathematics. It is expected and hoped that the recipients return to the Merrimack Valley after graduation.
The Dr. Salem Zack Elias Memorial Scholarship provides scholarships for students in the pre-medical program from the greater Lowell area.
Provides scholarships to students majoring in math. Must be a sophomore, junior or senior with financial need. Preference to students from the City of Lowell. This scholarship was established by Mr. Thomas Fleming.
Provides a scholarship to full-time undergraduate students in the Environmental Science Major, Environmental Science option with a GPA of 2.5 or higher.
The Mary C. Hall Mathematics Scholarship Endowment provides a scholarship to the most improved freshman in mathematics.
The Eric J. Helliwell ’88 Endowment Fund provides support for the College of Sciences, Department of Computer Science.
The Russell W. Hook Chemistry Endowment provides undergraduate scholarships in chemistry.
The Kennedy Family Merit Scholarship Endowment provides scholarships for undergraduate students in the College of Sciences at UMass Lowell.
The LaTorre Family Scholarship Endowment Fund provides scholarships to students majoring in the sciences within the College of Sciences.
The Russell V. Leclaire Endowed Scholarship Fund provides scholarships for students pursuing an undergraduate degree in physics.
The Edward L. McCaffery Memorial Endowed Award provides an annual book award to a student majoring in chemistry.
Provides a scholarship to full-time undergraduate students in the Environmental Science Major, Geoscience option with a GPA of 2.5 or higher.
The O’Connor Family Endowed Scholarship Fund provides scholarship support for students of the College of Sciences.
The William and Elizabeth O’Shea Endowment Fund provides a scholarship to full-time undergraduate students who are enrolled in electrical engineering or computer science for a minimum of 12 credits per semester.
The Louis A. Olney Book Prize Endowment Fund provides awards in the form of book prizes to students in the Department of Chemistry.
The Samuel Profio Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund awards scholarships to students pursuing a degree in chemistry from the University of Massachusetts Lowell.
The Charles Puliafico Endowed Scholarship Fund provides scholarships for outstanding student athletes at UMass Lowell, with preference for students majoring in one of the engineering disciplines, specifically chemical engineering, or to students majoring in chemistry.
The P.M. Raj Fund for Excellence in Computer Science provides support for the Computer Science Department.
The Richardson/Bedell Scholarship Endowment Fund provides scholarship assistance to students in the Mathematics Department.
The Scattergood Chemistry Scholarship Endowment provides find for student awards, scholarships, student activities, and an annual symposium. The purpose of this fund shall be in recognition of Prof. Allen Scattergood’s thirty years of service and devotion to the university and its Chemistry Department and is to be utilized to provide educational and enrichment opportunities for students in the Chemistry Department.
The Martin J. Schedlbauer Computer Science Endowment provides support for the Computer Science Department.
The Seldon Green Chemistry Award Endowment Fund provides support for recipients of the Seldon Green Chemistry Award. The award will be presented annually to a faculty member or graduate student in the Department of Chemistry for achievements in green chemistry.
The William Segall Endowment Fund provides scholarships preferably for chemistry students but available for other majors as well.
The Edwin C. Sherburne Memorial Scholarship Endowment provides scholarships to students who are pursuing a degree in chemistry.
The Shulman Fund for Excellence in Computer Science provides for support of the Computer Science Department.
The Charlie Steele Memorial Fund provides scholarships for graduate students in computer science, mathematics, or electrical engineering.
The Ye Yung Teng Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund provides scholarships to outstanding sophomore physics majors for use in their junior and senior years of study.
The Sukant K. Tripathy Memorial Endowed Fellowship Fund provides fellowships to support Ph.D. candidates in their final year of research in the broad areas of materials science and polymer science.
The U.S. Bank College of Sciences Dean’s Discretionary Endowment Fund provides supplemental scholarship support to the College of Sciences at the discretion of the Dean.
The Steve Williams Biology Scholarship Fund provides help for launching the careers of promising graduate students in biological sciences or biochemistry by defraying the costs of research materials, journal subscriptions, travel to conferences, etc.
The Arthur S. Zamanakos Endowed Scholarship Fund provides scholarships to students to pursuing degrees in mathematics.
The Ziagos Family Endowment Fund provides support for the mission of the Computer Science Department or the WUML radio station.
