Research Interests

Dr. Chen's current research interests include efficiency and productivity issues in the operation of information systems, information technology’s impact on operations performance, and methodology development of Data Envelopment Analysis.  Her work has appeared in such journals as the European Journal of Operational Research, International Journal of Production Economics, Information Technology & Management Journal, Annals of Operations research, OMEGA, Socio-Economic Planning Science, and others.  She is a member of the Institute for Operations Research and Management Sciences (INFORMS).

Biosketch

Yao Chen is an associate professor of management in the department’s Manufacturing/Management Information Systems Group. She joined the College of Management in 2002.  Prior to joining UMass Lowell, Dr. Chen taught at the Girard School of Business and International Commerce, Merrimack College. She has also taught as a graduate instructor at Isenberg School of Management, UMASS Amherst. Previously, she worked as an information system and ERP consultant for several years.

She is a member of Institute for Operations Research and Management Sciences (INFORMS). She received Joseph P. Healey Endowment Research Grand at University of Massachusetts at Lowell and Desmond fellowship and AASSB Research and Instructional Innovation grants at Merrimack College.

Her current research interests include efficiency and productivity issues of information systems, information technology’s impact on operations performance, and methodology development of Data Envelopment Analysis.
