When: Wednesday, June 20, 6 p.m.
What: UMass Lowell, the city of Lowell and the Lowell Spinners will dedicate “Weber Way” in honor of the former owners of the Boston Red Sox minor league team.
The dedication will take place on the field prior to the Spinners’ game against the Staten Island Yankees. The Spinners are the Class A short-season affiliate of the Red Sox, the first stop on the way to Fenway Park for many players including Andrew Benintendi, Mookie Betts and Christian Vazquez, along with several members of the 2004, 2007 and 2013 World Series championship teams.
At the event, the university and city will officially name the campus road next to LeLacheur Park, the home of the Spinners and the UMass Lowell River Hawks baseball teams, Weber Way to recognize Drew Weber and the late Joann Weber, who owned the team from 1997 to 2016.
Participants in the dedication ceremony will include Drew Weber and members of the Weber family, UMass Lowell Chancellor Jacquie Moloney, city of Lowell officials including Mayor William Samaras and City Councilor Rita Mercier, and representatives of the Spinners including current owner Dave Heller and General Manager Shawn Smith.
