TEAInternational Teachers to Help Lead Classes at Chelmsford High School
When: Tuesday, March 7, 11:15 a.m.
What: Twenty-one high school teachers from around the world participating in the Teaching Excellence and Achievement Program (TEA) hosted by UMass Lowell will be paired with teachers from Chelmsford High School to learn about the U.S. educational system, enhance their skills and gain opportunities in the field. Media are invited to cover a math class led by Sam Asimbong, a teacher from Cameroon, and Chelmsford High teacher Jennifer Dussault to learn more about their experience. The six-week cultural exchange, which wraps up this week, is supported by a grant from the U.S. Department of State secured by faculty in UMass Lowell’s Graduate School of Education.

Stone‘Meet Lucy Stone’ Underscores Work of Tsongas Industrial History Center
When: Tuesday, March 7, 7 to 8:30 p.m.
What: Actress Judith Black will present “Meet Lucy Stone,” the story of the Massachusetts feminist who was a leader of the 19th century’s anti-slavery and women’s rights movements. The event is part of the 25th anniversary of the Tsongas Industrial History Center, a unique partnership between UMass Lowell’s Graduate School of Education and the Lowell National Historical Park that educates thousands of schoolchildren and teachers annually about the American Industrial Revolution. KaagPriceless Books, Acclaimed Memoir They Inspired Are Centerpiece of Event
When: Thursday, March 9, 4 to 6 p.m. Rescheduled from Feb. 9.
What: A cache of priceless books, the memoir they inspired and how they transformed UMass Lowell Philosophy Prof. John Kaag’s life will be the centerpiece of a free event for the public and university community. Winning raves from the New York Times, National Public Radio and others, Kaag’s “American Philosophy: A Love Story” recounts his discovery of the Hocking Collection – rare editions of works penned by history’s greatest philosophers – and how his efforts led to UMass Lowell becoming the permanent home to more than 100 of the texts. The program will include a reading and book-signing by Kaag, a discussion of the extraordinary volumes in the Hocking Collection and a chance to see some of them, along with a question-and-answer session and reception.

HockeyRiver Hawks Skate into Hockey East Tournament for Sixth Straight Season
When: Friday, March 10, 7:15 p.m.; Saturday, March 11, 7 p.m.; and, if needed, Sunday, March 12, 4 p.m.
What: The UMass Lowell men’s ice hockey team will host the Hockey East championship quarterfinals for the sixth straight season when the league’s top-seeded River Hawks – who are ranked fourth in the country – face off against the University of New Hampshire Wildcats. The best-of-three game series takes place as River Hawks fans and the home team celebrate the 50th anniversary season of the sport at UMass Lowell. GraniteGranite to Glass to Perform Selections from Group’s Debut CD
When: Friday, March 10, 8 p.m.
What: Granite to Glass, an ensemble of UMass Lowell musicians that plays original pop songs with classical instruments, will perform selections from the group’s first CD at a free concert for the public. Performers are students Jon Kohen of Haverhill, Lily Innella of Arlington, Drew Cunningham of Whitinsville and Natalia McDermott of Billerica, along with alumna Nikki Billiri, also of Billerica. Copies of their CD, “For When You Need This,” will be available for purchase at the venue.

PopeGraphic Artist to Share Inspiration Behind His Fine Art, Commercial Work
When: Tuesday, March 21, 3:30 p.m.
What: Drawing his inspiration from California’s punk rock and skateboarding scenes, graphic artist Russ Pope – who has led marketing efforts for VANS apparel and contributed designs to other retailers – will talk about the creative process behind his portraits and doodles of faces in his fine art and commercial work. His presentation, “Who’s Who,” is free and open to all.
