This month’s hot topics and featured sources are:

Summer safety for pets – Contracting Lyme disease isn’t only a concern for people – dogs, cats and other animals are at risk as the summer unfolds. Veterinarian Suzanne Moore can talk about how to guard against this and other tick- and mosquito-borne illnesses, along with symptoms and treatments. She can also share how to keep pets safe from other dangers, such as heat stroke and poisonous plants. Moore teaches in UMass Lowell’s Zuckerberg College of Health Sciences.

Modern fatherhood – As families celebrate Father’s Day on June 18, workplace leadership and diversity expert Beth Humberd can discuss how men view their evolving roles as providers, mentors, partners and caregivers. She can also talk about how fathers’ involvement at home can have positive effects at work, including improved job performance and satisfaction, and how office environments can better support fatherhood. She teaches in UMass Lowell’s Manning School of Business.

Russia probes – Justice Department and congressional investigations into suspected Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election and possible Russian connections to President Trump’s campaign and administration will continue through the summer. UMass Lowell’s political science faculty can provide analysis on the processes behind the congressional hearings, the work of Special Counsel Robert Mueller, the role of the media and the potential legal and political outcomes.
