WHAT: Shahra Razavi, research and data chief of the United Nations’ Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, will deliver keynote remarks at the Global Carework Summit presented by UMass Lowell’s Center for Women and Work.
The three-day event, to be held from Thursday, June 1 through Saturday, June 3, will unite more than 100 researchers and policymakers from around the world to discuss some of the most pressing social problems of our time – health care, education and caring for children, senior citizens and people with disabilities. Participants are among those studying the role of caretakers and domestic employees, the work they perform and its impact on the economy and society.
Razavi’s address will focus on the local and global dynamics that contribute to the inequalities behind care work. Dozens of other speakers will lead programs on topics such as the movement to unionize care workers, how public policies are changing working conditions for these employees and the benefits and costs of investing in care.
UMass Lowell’s Center for Women and Work advances understanding about the relationship between gender and work through research, education and training.
