UMass Lowell provides world-class faculty, researchers and scholars to print, radio and TV journalists looking for expert sources. Lending authority to news and feature stories in an engaging and relatable way, experts are available in person, by phone or e-mail as sources on topics from science and engineering, business and education to the social sciences and humanities. TV options include live interviews in person or via satellite.

This month’s hot topics and featured sources are:

2016 Year in Review: Experts in politics, business, economics, terrorism, popular culture and more can provide perspective on the year’s biggest news stories. From the presidential election, economic issues like the battle for a $15 minimum wage and “Brexit” to terrorist attacks at home and abroad to the legacies of music legends lost in 2016, UMass Lowell faculty experts can offer insight on the impact major events have had this year and will have on the future.

75th anniversary of Pearl Harbor: Chad Montrie, American history expert. As the U.S. remembers the Dec. 7, 1941 attack that triggered the country’s entry into World War II, Montrie can discuss the issues of that era that have parallels today, including calls for American isolationism, the biases that led to the internment of Japanese-Americans and how the war fueled the economic resurgence of industrial cities across New England.

Evolution of the nursing profession: Experts in nursing can talk about how the field – from patient care to technology to education – has changed over the last two decades, as the university marks the 20th anniversary of its nursing doctoral degree programs. Innovations in education include UMass Lowell’s new simulated hospital wing that provides hands-on experience and a program that encourages middle- and high-school students to enter the profession to better serve the diverse patient population.
