UMass Lowell experts are available to discuss: 

  • Why some people procrastinate about holiday shopping and how to break the habit;
  • The issues Massachusetts governor-elect Charlie Baker will likely face as his administration begins on Jan. 8, 2015;
  • The year in review in politics, world health, terrorism, foreign policy, culture and the economy and a look ahead to the new year.

Open House to Showcase Graduate, Online and Continuing Ed Programs 

When: Wednesday, Jan. 14, 3 to 7 p.m.

What: People interested in UMass Lowell’s graduate, continuing-education and online offerings will learn about the university’s 39 master’s, 33 doctoral and more than 70 graduate certificate programs during this open house. Faculty program coordinators and continuing-education support specialists will be available to discuss part-time degree and certificate programs, online courses and project management seminars. Graduate admissions, registrar’s office and financial aid staff will be available to answer questions. Attendees may register for classes on site. UMass Lowell’s programs are nationally accredited. Many are available on campus, online or in a blended format.

Art and Design Students Display Works at Free Exhibition

When: Artists’ reception, Wednesday, Dec. 17, 5 to 7 p.m. Exhibit runs through Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015. Showings are by appointment and may be arranged by contacting Deborah_Santoro@uml.edu or 978-934-3494. 

What: Sixteen UMass Lowell students studying toward their bachelor of fine arts degrees will display their senior thesis projects during this exhibition that is free and open to the campus community and public. Pieces were created through a variety of media including photography, graphic art and website design. The students will be available to discuss their works during the artists’ reception. 

Where: University Gallery, Mahoney Hall, South Campus, 870 Broadway St., Lowell.

Public to Learn to Write Wikipedia Entries about Lowell’s History

When: Sunday, Jan. 25, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

What: People who want to learn how to write Wikipedia entries about Lowell’s neighborhoods and history may do so during this program presented by the UMass Lowell and Pollard Memorial libraries. This session will focus on the city’s Acre neighborhood; subsequent sessions will be held about other areas of the city. Participants will learn to create and edit Wikipedia pages and will have access to library resources. Attendees must register in advance for the sessions at http://tinyurl.com/lxel7vs and are encouraged to bring their laptops, smartphones, digital cameras and any materials about Lowell history they wish to reference. Participants may attend this and future sessions in their entirety or for a portion of them.
