The University Library provides a wealth of resources and services to support your success at UMass Lowell!

Ask A Librarian and research guides for help with your assignments, extensive databases for research, books (physical and ebooks), and streaming videos you can watch anytime.

O'Leary Library (South Campus) and Lydon Library (North Campus) both provide group and quiet study space. Spring 2026 hours are:

  • Monday - Thursday 7:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Friday 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Sunday 3 to 11 p.m.

To reserve a group study room, scan the QR code outside the room you want to connect to the scheduling system.

Research Help

Drop-in help with research experts is available at O’Leary and Lydon Monday – Wednesday afternoons from 12:30 – 4:30 p.m.

Chat with a librarian in real time, Monday – Thursday evenings from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. and Friday afternoons from 1 – 3 p.m. Visit uml.libanswers.com to start chatting.

  • Journal & Newspaper Articles: Do you need scholarly, peer-reviewed articles for your papers? What about news articles on current events? Our databases are the best place to find the variety of articles you’re looking for; start with Article Quick Search on the library’s homepage. We also have research guides by majors and subjects: UML Library Subject Guides.
  • Books:Our catalog searches all our print and ebook titles PLUS books from around the country. You can easily request books to be ordered through Interlibrary Loan from your search results. Toggle to the Catalog search box on the main library webpage or use advanced search.
  • Course Reserves: Did your professor put an item on reserve in the library? Each library has books on reserve for easy access and short-term use. You can check out reserve books and materials at the library located on the same campus as your class.
