Fire extinguishers are essential life safety devices, placed in specific locations based on hazard assessments and fire code requirements. Their placement is not random. It’s strategic and intentional to ensure quick access during an emergency.
Why This Matters:
- Code Compliance: Fire extinguishers must remain mounted in their designated locations to meet fire safety regulations.
- Emergency Access: A blocked or missing extinguisher can delay response and increase danger during a fire.
- Tampering Risks: Moving or removing extinguishers without proper authorization may violate the Massachusetts Fire Code and could result in enforcement actions.
Your Role in Campus Safety:
- Do not block fire extinguishers with furniture, equipment or personal items.
- Do not remove or relocate extinguishers on your own.
- If a relocation is necessary, please submit a work order through UML Facilities Management-Non-urgent Service Request, so Life Safety & Emergency Management can assess and approve the change.
Let’s keep our campus safe and compliant. Fire safety is a shared responsibility — thank you for doing your part!
