We’re excited to continue to support you and your students this year! Please don’t hesitate to take advantage of all the amazing resources available for your research and teaching needs, from our books (both print and ebooks), videos, and databases, to our Ask A Librarian service and LibGuides for research support.

Due to changes on campus, we have adjusted our hours this semester:

  • Monday - Thursday 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Friday 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Sunday 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.

If you are researching the history of Lowell or the university, or want to incorporate it into your classes, consider accessing our Special Collections Library. You can do so by making an appointment to visit the Center for Lowell History.

When you or your students need help with research, suggest they visit our Ask a Librarian page. Our Frequently Asked Questions cover hundreds of topics and you can email ask@uml.libanswers.com for personalized help. We have drop-in and Zoom help available. You can also book personal appointments with the Research & Learning Librarians. We’re happy to meet with you over Zoom or in person to help with your literature reviews and systematic reviews.

We welcomed our new Assistant Director for Library Collections, Alice Pearman, this summer. She’ll be analyzing our collections and recommending additions and improvements to ensure we have what you need for your teaching and research. Thank you to everyone who provided feedback by completing our collection survey in the spring; the information we gathered will inform Alice’s work.

Those who took the survey were eligible to win a Starbucks gift card. Those winners are:

  • Eric Maase
  • Melissa Juchniewicz
  • Becca Richards
  • Lisa Edwards
  • Adam Lerner

Thank you to everyone who took the survey in the spring. We are busy reviewing the responses and will have a report to share with Faculty Senate and your departments soon.

We have added and expanded a few new resources for you and your students to use. We announced digital access to the New York Times. Learn more. And, thanks to Brand, Communications and Creative Strategy, you can also access the Lowell Sun, The Sentinel & Enterprise, and The Boston Herald through the library. Find a complete list of the newspapers we provide, visit our database page. We expanded access to our Dissertations and Theses database to include full-text access so you can download PDFs directly. This summer JSTOR and Artstor merged onto the same platform; now your JSTOR search results include art and architecture from their collection.

Are you using video in your classes? Let us know the movie, documentary, or other video content you want to share with your students, even if you used it in past semesters, as our access changes from time to time. We’ll work to find streaming access from one of our many partners. Submit your renewed and new digital media requests.

Remember, when publishing your work in Wiley and IOP journals, the library has an agreement to help cover the cost of open access publishing. If you’re curious to know more about this or want us to explore this with other publishers, contact: Amanda_Rust@uml.edu.
