Introduction to Using Qualtrics for Online Surveys

Qualtrics is a web-based survey tool that is available to UMass Lowell students, staff, & faculty. This beginning workshop will walk participants through how to create an online survey using this software. Level: Beginner

Introduction to R: Importing & Working with Data

R is currently one of the fastest growing statistical software platforms for use by scientists, researchers, and statisticians. It provides a powerful, open source (i.e., free) environment for a wide array of tasks, including data manipulation, statistical modeling, and statistical graphics. One of the most commonly cited drawbacks in for those beginning to use R is its relatively steep learning curve. In this workshop we will provide an easy introduction to using R for some common research purposes, particularly reading/importing data and data manipulation, cleaning, and variable recoding. We will also take time for Q & A, helping to translate the use of other platforms (i.e., SPSS or Stata) into R. Level: Beginner

Introduction to Working with Data in SPSS

This workshop will provide a hands-on introduction to using SPSS, including uploading, entering, and manipulating data. Additionally, this workshop will cover basic descriptive and inferential statistics, including correlations, Chi-square tests, and t-tests. This workshop is intended for beginners in SPSS. Graduate student attendance is especially encouraged! Level: Beginner

Exploratory Factor Analysis in SPSS
2 – 4 p.m.

Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) has been widely used in social science research to investigate the factors underlying the responses to a set of items. In this workshop, the fundamental knowledge of EFA will be introduced. In addition, through an example, participants will learn the steps of conducting an EFA in SPSS and the interpretation of EFA. Lastly, the STATA syntax and outputs of EFA will be provided for STATA users. Level: Intermediate

Introduction to Working with Data in SAS

SAS is a widely used statistical software program that is available to UMass Lowell faculty, staff, and students. This workshop will begin with an introduction of SAS interface and walk participants through some common use of SAS with examples, including data importing/cleaning, data manipulation, variable recoding, and descriptive statistics, and basic data visualization. The workshop will end with resources for learning more about SAS and Q&A. Level: Beginner

An Introduction to Using Zotero

Zotero is a reference management tool that collects and organizes bibliographic references, such as books and journal articles. This beginning workshop will walk participants through how to store, manage, and cite references using this software. Level: Beginner
