Associate Teaching Professor Rebecca Markovitz and Adjunct Faculty Ahmed Banafa have received the 2023 Haskell Memorial Award for Distinguished Teaching.

The award honors faculty members whose online instruction helps to create significant opportunities for UMass Lowell students. Haskell Award winners are nominated each year by students taking courses through the Division of Graduate, Online & Professional Studies.

The awards were announced at the 2023 Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society induction event. Markovits, who teaches psychology courses online, was recognized by students for being "an amazing teacher” who “goes above and beyond to make students feel confident in the materials they are learning.”

Banafa, who teaches information technology courses online, was praised by students for “his passion and knowledge of the field” and the “effectiveness of his teaching style.”

Haskell Award winners receive a cash prize in addition to a commemorative plaque.
