Join UMass Lowell’s Department of Public Health for its First National Public Health Week Visiting Lecture on April 5 from 10 to 11 a.m. in Coburn Hall 255 featuring the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (IT), Micky Tripathi, Ph.D.

Tripathi leads the formulation of the federal health IT strategy and coordinates federal health IT policies, standards, programs, and investments, including the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology’s Public Health Informatics & Technology Workforce Development Program.

National Coordinator for Health IT Micky Tripathi will discuss how the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC), alongside its U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) partners, is working to improve public health and drive innovation. Specifically, Micky will explain the role of certified health IT in public health data, how ONC and CDC are working together to modernize public health infrastructure, how Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement (TEFCA) will benefit public health agencies, and the importance of educating and launching individuals into public health careers.

UMass Lowell's Department of Public Health was one of 10 minority-serving colleges and universities to receive grant funding from the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology as part of a federal effort to address the gaps in public health capacity that hurt the U.S. response to COVID-19.

National Public Health Week is celebrated during the first full week of April each year.
