On yet another morning, we wake up saddened and stunned by news of a senseless mass shooting. Though we still await details, yesterday’s violence at Michigan State University resonates because its target was a campus community much like our own. Our deepest condolences are with the victims, their families, friends and colleagues.

Events such as these are triggering for some and can lead to acute feelings of anxiety. Counseling services through the Wellness Center are available to students, and for employees, resources are always available through the university’s Employee Assistance Program.

Today, more than most, is one to show compassion and deference toward one another. The reason UMass Lowell is such a special place is because of the caring and supportive community we create together
