Congratulations to the UMass Lowell Police Department, which had four officers recognized for their outstanding work by the Massachusetts Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators.

Officers Ryan Cassidy, Samantha Duran, Jeffrey Connors and William Emmons were among 33 campus police officers and administrators from across the state recently recognized at the organization’s annual awards and scholarship ceremony, held at Boston College.

Casey McCauley, a sophomore criminal justice major from Melrose, Massachusetts, also received a John M. King Scholarship for Advancement and Education.

Led by Police Chief Randolph Brashears, the UMLPD has 30 officers who provide patrol, investigation and emergency response, as well as crime prevention and educational services, to the campus 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Cassidy and Duran received a Life Saving Award, which recognizes officers who go above and beyond their law enforcement responsibilities in rendering care to a citizen or a member of their agency in need of medical attention. Last June, Cassidy and Duran responded to a student who was experiencing a mental health crisis. The officers were able to have the student transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Connors and Emmons received the Sean Collier Award, which recognizes a strong commitment to the community and the development of community policing programs.

On behalf of the entire UML community, I’d like to congratulate Chief Brashears for the leadership and example that he, his command team and the entire force show every day.
