Facilities supports research by maintaining safe, reliable, and fully functional campus infrastructure that enables laboratory operations and experimentation. Core building systems—such as utilities, HVAC, building automation, and fire protection—are managed to ensure stable, controlled environments for research. Maintenance and repair work is prioritized based on safety, operational need, and asset preservation, helping minimize disruptions and protect critical research activities.

Support also extends to the planning, design, and construction of research spaces. Through space planning, code compliance, and construction management, teams assist with lab renovations, new lab build-outs, and infrastructure upgrades. They also contribute to grant development by helping estimate costs for equipment installation and required facility modifications, ensuring proposals reflect space, utility, and regulatory considerations.

In addition, teams coordinate closely with researchers, Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), and other campus partners to support lab operations. This includes managing the equipment installation process, reviewing safety and technical requirements, and supporting onboarding for new research personnel. Preventative maintenance of building systems, emergency support for critical equipment, and streamlined service request processes all help sustain research continuity and allow investigators to focus on their work.
