This summer program will enhance the ability of students to undertake interdisciplinary research through cutting-edge projects that focus on innovative engineering and scientific solutions to healthcare problems through medical devices, including the interplay between engineering solutions, clinical requirements and physiological environments.
Biomedical Engineering continues to grow as an educational, research and career discipline with medical devices at the core. The Medical Devices theme is readily accessible to undergraduates, as it involves all STEM disciplines. It is also very attractive for students because of the familiarity, inherent applied nature and implicit societal relevance. The intellectual focus of the summer program encompasses the following tenets:
- Learning scientific concepts and phenomena at the interface of engineering, biology, and medicine.
- Innovating engineering approaches to lay the foundation for the development of new technologies for medical diagnostics and treatments.
- Exploring transformative novel engineering applications to solve relevant medical problems that serve humanity in the long term.
- Applying engineering principles to problems in medicine and human biology while advancing engineering knowledge.
