Biosketch

Xingwei Wang is a Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE) Fellow, Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. Her research focuses on fiber-optic sensors, optical instrumentation, distributed sensing, and sensing-system integration for engineering and scientific applications.

She has extensive experience in fiber Bragg grating sensors, distributed temperature and acoustic sensing, high-temperature and field-deployable optical sensing systems, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) assisted interpretation of optical sensing data. Her research has been applied to infrastructure monitoring, industrial and food-processing environments, environmental sensing, biomedical photoacoustic sensing, and robotic sensing applications.

Wang has led and participated in federally funded research projects, supervised undergraduate and graduate researchers, and collaborated with academic and industrial partners on translating optical sensing technologies into practical measurement platforms. Her current interests include AI-enabled fiber-optic sensing systems, intelligent diagnostics, field-deployable monitoring platforms, and multidisciplinary applications of optical sensing technologies.
