Biosketch

Bertie Greer was appointed Rist Family Endowed Dean of the Manning School of Business in November 2023. Prior to joining UMass Lowell, she spent seven years at Wayne State University where she was a Full Professor of Global Supply Chain Management and Associate Dean for Strategy and Planning in the Mike Ilitch School of Business. Her responsibilities included strategic planning, AACSB Re-accreditation, General Operations, administrative direction on School facilities, etc. Her direct reports included diversity and Inclusion Manager, MPREP program counselors, Event Specialist/building coordinator, instructional designer, corporate mentor program manager, career planning and placement director, and the academic accreditation and compliance program manager. 

Prior to coming to Wayne State University, Greer was at Northern Kentucky University for 15 years where she rose through the ranks to a Department Chair/full professor in the department of management. She earned her Ph.D. from Kent State University in Business Administration with a focus on Micro-Organizational Theory and a minor in statistics. Her dissertation focused on Diversity and Quality Management. She has previous academic experience at Bowling Green State University, the University of Detroit Mercy, Oakland University, and University of Dayton. Dr. Greer's international experience includes teaching at Sookmyung Women's University in Seoul, Korea, and the University of East London in England.

Greer has taught both graduate and undergraduate courses in Managing Diversity, Operations, Global Supply Chain, and Project management. Her research interests are in the areas of supply chain, project, quality, diversity, and change management. Greer has earned Best Paper awards at the Academy of Management, Decision Science Institute, and the Midwest Decision Sciences Institute. Dr. Greer has published in the Journal of Supply Chain Management, Journal of Operations Management, Journal of Business Logistics, Journal of Applied Behavioral Sciences, Interfaces, Human Resources Development, Journal of Change Management, and other scholarly journals and Books.

In addition to her academic accomplishments, Greer, a former engineer, and graduate of the University of Toledo, has industry experience with Timken Roller Bearing, Ford Motor Company, and Chrysler/Jeep in Management and Engineering. She has practical experience in project management, process improvement, buyer-supplier relationships, manufacturing, quality management, and supervising. Dr. Greer trains and consults in the areas of supply chain, inventory management, manufacturing resource planning, and diversity. 

Greer is a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, Decision Sciences Institute, Academy of Management, Ph.D. project Lead, Ph.D. Project Management Faculty Alumni, Management Faculty of Color, APICs, Institute of Supply Management, AACSB Women Administrators in Management Education (WAME), Women in Business Education, and AACSB Diversity and Inclusion Affinity Group.

She currently serves as a board member on the Advisory board of the Mechanical Industrial Manufacturing Engineering (MIME) at the University of Toledo, We Pop the Corn Company, Co-chairman of Life Leaders, Inc., and the Review Board of Decision Science Journal of Innovative Education.
