The Core Curriculum at UMass Lowell ensures that students are learning deeply and broadly, developing essential intellectual abilities that prepare our students to thrive in and contribute to their communities. The UMass Lowell Core addresses this challenge with a two-part framework of requirements: Breadth of Knowledge and Essential Learning Outcomes.
The Enriching Essential Learning Outcomes E2LO initiative invites students to extend their Core learning beyond the classroom.
Students gain multiple perspectives on diverse areas of knowledge and modes of inquiry outside their major discipline.
Students practice seven key intellectual skills - the Core ELOs - in ways that are tailored and relevant for their major.
Students enrich their learning by building connections between the classroom and experiential and co-curricular opportunities.
