Community Service
Awarded to a student who has demonstrated exceptional commitment to the public good — through sustained and meaningful engagement in service to others throughout the Greater Lowell community.
Recipients will have demonstrated:
- Leadership and initiative in organizing, participating in, or advancing community service efforts that address social, environmental, and/or economic challenges.
- Sustained commitment to volunteerism and civic engagement over an extended period, reflecting dedication to the well-being of others.
- Collaboration with community partners, organizations, or campus groups to strengthen collective impact and advanced shared goals.
- Service that exemplifies integrity, compassion and a spirit of generosity bringing honor to the student, the university, and the wider community.
Eligibility and Application Requirements:
- Graduating students in undergraduate, graduate, or online and continuing education programs.
- Submission of a personal statement demonstrating achievement in at least 2 of the above areas. (Each example should be no more than 400 words.)
- Minimum of two, with a maximum of three, recommendation letters from UMass Lowell faculty, staff or supervisors.
- Eligible students must have a minimum GPA of 2.00 (undergraduate) or 3.00 (graduate) and be in good disciplinary standing.
This medal honors those who exemplify UMass Lowell’s belief that education and service are inseparable — and that strengthening communities is at the heart of student success.
