Fraternity and Sorority Life

Here at UMass Lowell, nine organizations make up our Greek Life community. Five fraternities and four sororities vary in national and local affiliation. By obtaining membership, you become part of an organization that upholds certain principles, develops leadership and promotes personal bonding. While you are joining a specific organization, you also become part of a larger community of individuals who support each other and help to uphold the UMass Lowell campus.

Finding your own space on campus can be difficult, but with this support, you can create instant connections and lifelong friendships.

Philanthropy and Scholarship

Philanthropy: Each Greek organization participates in its own chosen philanthropies. Collectively fraternities and sororities at UMass Lowell have coordinated to raise money and hold events to benefit St. Jude for more than 10 years.

Scholarship: Many organizations have their own alumni chapters or national headquarters that provide scholarships. Members of fraternity and sorority life at UMass Lowell recognize the value of education and are grateful to have role models who gather to support their collegiate brothers and sisters financially.

Service, Friendship and Unity

The mission of fraternities and sororities at UMass Lowell is to promote a supportive and inclusive community that encourages students to achieve personal growth, academic excellence and lifelong connections. Through a commitment to leadership, service and moral standards, our Greek organizations strive to make a long-lasting, positive impact on campus and in the Lowell community. We are dedicated to upholding the pillars of philanthropy, friendship and unity, while celebrating diversity and promoting the well-being of all members. As a community, we aim to inspire future leaders who will contribute to a connected world.

Anti-Hazing Policy

UMass Lowell has a zero-tolerance policy for any and all types of hazing.

Hazing is also a violation of Mass. General Laws, Chapter 269, Sections 17-19.

Hazing is defined as: "Conduct or method of initiation into any student organization, whether on public or private property, which willfully or recklessly endangers the physical or mental health of any student or other persons. The implied or express consent of the victim will not be a defense. Apathy or acquiescence in the presence of hazing are not neutral acts; they are violations of this policy."

Failure to report a potential violation of the hazing policy may result in action through the Student Conduct system.
