Center for Women & Work

The UMass Lowell Center for Women and Work (CWW) is a vibrant community of scholars who are dedicated to the Center’s mission to advance knowledge about the relationship between gender and work through research, enhance understanding of this relationship through education and training, and challenge inequalities, particularly through institutional change.

Christa Hodapp, Associate Teaching Professor in the UMass Lowell Philosophy Department, will be the CWW Acting Director while Meg Bond is on sabbatical for the 2019-2020 academic year. Christa’s scholarly work addresses contemporary masculinity, including fatherhood and the men’s rights movement, and she is currently the Director of the Gender Studies Program. Christa has been a CWW Associate since 2017 and took on a leadership role with CWW’s Women's LeadX initiative last year. Please join us in welcoming Christa – CWW will undoubtedly benefit from her expertise and energy!

While on sabbatical, Meg’s primary focus will be writing about many of the innovative projects associated with CWW over the past few years. One particularly high priority is sharing what the Center has learned about academic institutional transformation through our NSF-funded ADVANCE Program called Making WAVES (Women Academics Valued and Edangaged in STEM). The WAVES team is especially interested in sharing our model and approach to bystander interventions to address workplace microaggressions with diverse audiences. While on leave, Bond will be an Affiliated Scholar at Brandeis University’s Women’s Studies Research Center.
