Convocation is the formal welcome for all students entering the UMass Lowell academic community. This year we will be welcoming the first-year and sophomore classes on Tuesday, Aug. 31 at 11 a.m. Convocation will be held in person at the Tsongas Center.

2021 Keynote Speaker: Nana Younge

Nana Younge

Nana Younge is a leadership expert with a background in entrepreneurship and education. Nana brings 10 years experience as a nonprofit professional in youth development and community organizing to her work. While obtaining her bachelor of science in Business Administration with a concentration in Entrepreneurship from the University of Massachusetts Lowell, Nana founded Get Girls Going as a means to empower Black teen girls to become the change-makers in their own communities. 

In 2015, Get Girls Going became the first place winner in the DifferenceMaker creative venture competition and was selected as a finalist in the Lowell EforAll business accelerator. 

Nana continued to make an impact on campus by partnering with local high schools like Lowell High School and Lowell Technical High School to run Get Girls Going on campus. After graduating with her bachelor's, Nana went on to receive a Master of Education in Community Engagement from Merrimack College and currently works as the Executive Director of Get Girls Going where she inspires young Black women to find purpose through entrepreneurship.
