Community Co-Working Day Welcomes Region’s Entrepreneurs
When and where: Wednesday, March 11, 9 a.m. UMass Lowell Innovation Hub, Harbor Place, 2 Merrimack St., Haverhill
What: Entrepreneurs and small business professionals will gather at the UMass Lowell Innovation Hub for a networking session and to gain access to the startup incubator’s fabrication lab, conference rooms and other resources. The free co-working event will include a lunchtime talk by author Michelle Wax, host of the podcast “The American Happiness Project.” Members of the public who would like more information should email Stephanie_Guyotte@uml.edu.
UMass Lowell Experts Share Views on U.S., International Politics
When and where: Tuesday, March 17, 3:30 p.m. O’Leary Library Learning Commons Mezzanine, South Campus, 61 Wilder St., Lowell
What: UMass Lowell experts in American and international politics will discuss their latest work at a free public forum open to the campus and community. Panelists are scheduled to include Associate Prof. Joshua Dyck, director of the UMass Lowell Center for Public Opinion, who will talk about ballot initiatives’ effect on democracy; Associate Prof. Morgan Marietta, who will share his research on the factors behind the growing divisiveness in U.S. politics and Prof. Ardeth Thawnghmung, who will speak about the economic and political climate in Myanmar. The event will be moderated by Associate Prof. Angelica Duran-Martinez, an authority on Latin American politics. Free parking is available in the Wilder Lot near the venue. Curtain Rises on Free Wind Ensemble Concert
When and where: Thursday, March 19, 8 p.m. Durgin Hall, South Campus, 35 Wilder St., Lowell
What: The talented student-musicians in the university’s Wind Ensemble will perform a free concert for the campus and community, featuring works by composers Camille Saint-Saens, Warren Benson and Alfred Reed. The group is conducted by Daniel Lutz, director of university bands. No tickets are required for admission and free parking will be available in the Wilder Lot near the venue. History of Lowell’s Greek Community on Exhibit
When and where: Opening reception, Saturday, March 21, 2 p.m. Boott Cotton Mills Museum Counting House, 115 John St., Lowell. The exhibit will be on display through Tuesday, March 31.
What: “Acropolis of America: The Greek Community of Lowell, 1874 to 2020” will spotlight the culture and contributions of Greek Americans living in the city. The exhibit was curated by UMass Lowell Distinguished University Prof. Robert Forrant, a U.S. history expert, along with a UMass Lowell graduate from Manchester, N.H., and students from Andover, Townsend and Tynsborough. Free to the public, the show is presented by UMass Lowell in partnership with the Lowell National Historical Park and the Hellenic Culture and Heritage Society of Lowell. The display is dedicated in memory of Charles Nikitopoulos, the UMass Lowell professor emeritus who helped establish the society. The exhibit will be open daily, noon to 5 p.m. Members of the public who would like more information may visit www.nps.gov/lowe.
