MEDIA ADVISORY

WHEN: Wednesday, Nov. 8, 3:30 p.m.

WHAT: Roseann Sdoia, Boston Marathon bombing survivor and UMass Lowell graduate, returns to her alma mater to talk about her inspiring book about the surprising and positive turns her life has taken since that fateful day in April 2013.

Sdoia, a graduate of UMass Lowell’s Manning School of Business, was standing near the finish line of the Boston Marathon on April 15, 2013 when one of two bombs planted nearby exploded. She sustained critical injuries, including damage to her right leg so great that it later had to be amputated at the knee. Were it not for the help of college student Shores Salter, police officer Shana Cottone and firefighter Mike Materia, Sdoia may not have survived.

Sdoia’s book, “Perfect Strangers: Friendship, Strength and Recovery After Boston’s Worst Day,” tells the story of not only how she lived through that day, but also how she and the three people she credits with saving her life have formed an unbreakable bond – so much so that she and Materia were married earlier this month – and the positive path she has chosen to take in her life.

Sdoia will share the experiences captured in “Perfect Strangers” at UMass Lowell’s bookstore, The River Hawk Shop, on Wednesday, Nov. 8 at 3:30 p.m. The free event is open to the public and Sdoia will sign books, which will be available for purchase.

WHERE:  The River Hawk Shop, University Crossing, 220 Pawtucket St., Lowell. Contact UMass Lowell media relations for directions and parking information.
