Hoop Jam Gears Up Fans for River Hawks Basketball Season

Artist-in-Residence Leah Buechley to Lead Programs for Students, Public
When: Wednesday, Nov. 5 and Thursday, Nov. 6
- “This is a Circuit” Workshop, Wednesday, Nov. 5, 3 p.m. Buechley will lead a workshop for 15 UMass Lowell students and members of the public. Participants must pre-register to Kathleen Roth by calling 978-934-3494.
- “Hi-Low Tech” gallery exhibit, Wednesday, Nov. 5 through Friday, Dec. 5. The free, public show will feature the works of the High-Low Tech research group, including a wooden cell phone, interactive drawings and textiles that can sense their own shape. Artists whose works will be shown include Buechley, Jennifer Jacobs, Sam Jacoby, Emily Lovell, David Mellis, Hannah Perner-Wilson, Jie Qui, Kanjun Qiu and Amit Zoran. University Gallery, Mahoney Hall, South Campus, 870 Broadway St., Lowell. Gallery hours are Monday through Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- “High-Low Tech: A Talk with Leah Buechley,” Thursday, Nov. 6, 3 p.m. Buechley will discuss her craft in a free presentation for the campus and the public. O’Leary Library Learning Commons, Room 222, South Campus, 61 Wilder St., Lowell. A reception with the artist will follow at 4:15 p.m. in the University Gallery, Mahoney Hall, South Campus, 870 Broadway St., Lowell.

Violin and Lyra Concert Celebrates Greek Culture
When: Sunday, Nov. 16, 3 p.m.
What: “The Violin and Lyras of Greece” will celebrate traditional folk music from all regions of the country in a free concert for the public and UMass Lowell community. Performers will include Beth Bahia Cohen on the violin and lyras; Sandy Theodorou on laouto, accordion and vocals; and Fabio Pirozzolo on percussion. The event is presented by UMass Lowell and the Hellenic Culture and Heritage Society, which helps to advance Greek-American life in Lowell.
