What: The Massachusetts Life Sciences Center (MLSC) will announce major new capital grants for projects in Lowell on Friday, March 28.

Through the MLSC, Massachusetts is investing $1 billion over 10 years in the growth of the state’s life sciences ecosystem.  These investments are being made under the Massachusetts Life Sciences Initiative, proposed by Gov. Deval Patrick in 2007, and passed by the Legislature and signed into law by Gov. Patrick in 2008.

Also being celebrated at Friday’s event are four Lowell-area high schools that were authorized this past December to receive equipment and supply grants from the Center: Billerica Memorial High School, Greater Lowell Technical High School, Lowell High School and Nashoba Valley Technical High School.

  • University of Massachusetts Lowell Chancellor Marty Meehan;
  • Massachusetts Life Sciences Center President & CEO Susan Windham-Bannister, Ph.D.;
  • University of Massachusetts Lowell Associate Vice Chancellor, Entrepreneurship and Economic Development Steven Tello;
  • Middlesex Community College President Carole Cowan

When: Friday, March 28, 2 p.m.

Where: Massachusetts Medical Device Development Center (M2D2), Wannalancit Mill Building, Second Floor, 600 Suffolk St., Lowell. Media parking will be available in the Tremont Lot on Suffolk Street.
