The UML Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) held its first corporate recruitment event on March 20, 2023. As part of the event, Leidos, Teradyne and Turner Construction visited the campus with the intent to hire engineers for internships and full-time positions. The organizations were interested in a broad range of majors, including Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, and Industrial Engineers.

The planning of the event started in December 2022. “The idea was to host a one-on-one mixer which would allow students and company representatives to connect with one another at a personal level,” said Amanda Mello, SHPE External Vice President, and event organizer.

With the assistance of Kerry Pucillo, Director of UML Corporate Relations, Mello identified the three organizations invited to be part of this unique opportunity. Reggie Walker, Program Coordinator in the Office of Student Activities and Leadership, assisted with the room, furniture, and food. He created an environment that perfectly matched Mello’s vision.

Approximately 40 students attended the event, some receiving callbacks for second-round interviews. “We hope to continue building our relationship with these organizations and keep growing our professional familia,” said Mello.

Stay tuned for the next SHPE corporate event!
