Fuat Sakirler, a fourth-year Ph.D. candidate in Assoc. Prof. Hsi-Wu Wong's research group, has been awarded the Kokes Travel Award for the 28th North American Catalysis Society Meeting.

The prestigious award will cover Fuat’s lodging and conference registration costs. Fuat will present his recent work on the catalytic and inhibitory effects caused by the plastics on cellulose fast pyrolysis during their co-pyrolysis, which will contribute to sustainable production of biofuels or value-derived chemicals as well as waste management of plastics.

The Richard J. Kokes Travel Award program of NACS aims to encourage undergraduate and graduate students to attend and participate in this biennial conference. It provides funding to waive the awardee's conference registration fee and includes accommodation at the Graduate Providence in a room shared with another Kokes awardee winner. Sponsored by the North American Catalysis Society, the award provides significant support from government agencies such as NSF and US-DOE. This is a competitive award with over 200 excellent applications submitted for approximately 146 awards granted.
