UMass Lowell will honor veterans, their service and sacrifices during a Flag Ceremony at 1 p.m. Nov. 9 in the Martin T. Meehan Student Center.

The university’s annual recognition of Veterans Day pays tribute to over 1,000 UMass Lowell military-connected students, staff and faculty, specifically those veterans and active service members who have served across the country and across the globe.

The event will include the unfurling of an American flag measuring 36 feet by 20 feet and remarks by Alex Yarter, president of the university’s Student Veterans Alliance, and UMass Lowell Chancellor Julie Chen.

Presenting the colors will be the UMass Lowell Air Force ROTC Detachment No. 345.

UMass Lowell is ranked as one of the best schools in the nation for veterans by the Military Times and Victory Media.

The UMass Lowell Office of Military and Veterans Services assists military-connected students with accessing several state and federal educational programs and provides a variety of student programming to support them in making a successful transition from military to civilian life.

To help jumpstart student-veterans’ entry into the working world after graduation, the university offers a host of specialized career-development programs in collaboration with federal, state, private-industry and nonprofit partners.
