UML researchers are conducting a study investigating how people learn to incorporate exoskeleton assistance into their movements when walking with a pair of powered ankle braces.
Study procedures include:
- Walking in powered ankle braces
- Blood collection, approximately 50 mL total, requiring a fasting procedure
- Lab tests to examine cell energy (mitochondria) and specific genetic markers linked to cognitive and physical performance
There will be four visits on separate days, approximately three hours each.
You may be eligible to take part in this study if you do not have:
- Any previously diagnosed neurologic, orthopedic or cardiopulmonary conditions that may affect the safety or capability of performing treadmill walking
- A history of major leg or spine injuries
- Pain in your legs or spine that limits your walking
- Unexplained dizziness in the past six months
- Chest pain or shortness of breath without exertion
- Color blindness
- Uncontrolled heart rate, blood pressure or blood sugar levels
Compensation of $15 per hour, in the form of an Amazon or Target e-gift card, will be provided for your time.
