Join us as we celebrate Lowell’s recent designation by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as the first U.S. member of the Global Network of Learning Cities.

  • Date: Saturday, Oct. 10
  • Time: 10:30 a.m.
  • Location: In front of Lowell City Hall, 375 Merrimack Street, Lowell

Lowell has promoted lifelong learning for its entire history, beginning with the mill girls who organized lectures and wrote magazines, extending through generations of immigrant communities who learned English and taught others their languages and cultures. Lowell now has both formal and informal education extending from birth (with baby yoga through the library) to post-retirement (with LIRA’s programs at UML) and everything in between, including cultural programming, DIY skills, art and so much more. UNESCO recognized this history—and its continuation—with its recent designation of Lowell as the only Learning City in the U.S.

Join us for a brief speaking program, coffee and doughnuts from various local shops to celebrate Lowell’s UNESCO designation. Learn more on the Lowell City of Learning website.
