Earlier this semester, we shared information encouraging faculty and staff to consider religious observances when scheduling campus activities. To provide a resource that can be more readily maintained and updated, we have created a UMass Lowell Interfaith and Cultural Observances Calendar webpage that replaces the external calendar link included in our previous announcement.
As the academic year continues and campus calendars begin to fill, we encourage faculty and staff to consider the religious and spiritual observances represented within our university community when planning activities. A link to the calendar is also included on UML’s scheduling site, Book It, making it easier to incorporate this consideration into the event planning process. The link appears on the pop-up notification window as you access the scheduling platform.
We recognize that scheduling is complex, and that no resource can capture every tradition, observance or individual practice. Still, taking a moment to review upcoming observances can help reduce unintended conflicts and improve opportunities for participation whenever possible. While scheduling conflicts are sometimes unavoidable, early communication can help community members plan accordingly.
Thank you for your thoughtful planning and for your ongoing efforts to foster an inclusive campus environment.
