Faculty serving on Department Personnel Committees (DPCs) and College Personnel Committees (CPCs) are invited to attend a preparation meeting for the upcoming promotion and tenure review cycle. Deans and department chairs are also strongly encouraged to attend.
As reviewers, you play an important role in ensuring that promotion and tenure decisions are thoughtful, consistent, transparent and equitable. This session will provide an opportunity to review your responsibilities and clarify key aspects of the process, including:
- Committee membership eligibility and responsibilities
- Voting protocols and important deadlines
- Expectations for recommendation letters
- Preparation, professionalism and confidentiality
- Best practices for equitable and inclusive committee meetings
The session will also share practical strategies for recognizing and mitigating implicit bias and strengthening transparency and equity in personnel decisions.
I strongly encourage all DPC and CPC members—especially committee chairs—to participate. Your preparation and engagement are essential to maintaining the integrity of our promotion and tenure process and supporting a fair experience for every candidate.
To encourage an open and candid discussion, this session will not be recorded.
