Experience history by doing with two opportunities to learn to weave.
Hands-On History: Saturday, July 11 from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. (Drop in!)
Mindful Weaving: Thursday, July 16 at 4:30 p.m. or 5:45 p.m. (Reservations required)

Hands-On History:
Lowell National Historical Park and the Tsongas Industrial History Center are excited to welcome you for “Hands-On History” — part of the City of Lowell’s Bicentennial celebrations and the Tsongas Industrial History Center’s 35th anniversary!

This month’s activities include: Trying weaving on a loom and exploring Lowell’s many cultures by viewing objects from the many different groups that call Lowell home.

These free, drop-in workshops are appropriate for all ages. Explore our educational workshop spaces at the Boott Cotton Mills Museum and discover how the Industrial Revolution shaped life then and now. Whether you’re a returning visitor or brand new to history, there’s something hands-on for everyone.

Mindful Weaving:
Take a break to sit and meditate as you get a chance to weave on our hand looms. Feel the rhythm and relax, find your groove and attune to the loom! Whether you need a break from the day-to-day bustle or are looking to discover a new peaceful pastime, Mindful Weaving Workshops offer a serene setting to unwind while weaving on our handlooms. Instructors will be available to assist for those who have never woven before, and our experienced weavers will be set up for success with pattern options to experiment with.

The Mindful Weaving workshop is intended for ages 16 and up. Workshops will be offered on July 16, August 6, and September 9. Each date has two 1-hour sessions available, beginning at 4:30 p.m. and 5:45 p.m. For more information and to reserve your spot, please call (978)970-5000 or email TIHC@uml.edu. Be sure to indicate your preferred date and session time.

The July 16th free event is also part of the Late Night at the Museum series, offered June through October. Visit the Boott Cotton Mills Museum after-hours on the third Thursday of each month to experience the museum in a way in a new light.
