Did you know that UMass Lowell has been recognized as a Tree Campus USA institution for nearly 15 years and has proudly held Level II Arboretum Accreditation for more than three years? Join Kevin Block, our campus Grounds Manager and certified Arborist, for a behind-the-scenes look at the trees, landscapes, and green spaces that make our campus unique.
As we stroll through campus, you'll discover what these prestigious recognitions mean, how UMass Lowell earned them, and why they matter to the University, the surrounding community, and our ever-growing urban forest. Along the way, we'll explore recent landscape enhancements, sustainability initiatives, and some of the remarkable trees and plants that call campus home.
More importantly, we'll take a closer look at the incredible diversity of trees and plants found across campus, discussing species identification, tree biology, plant selection, landscape design, pest and disease management, and the challenges and opportunities of managing an urban forest in a university setting, or anything else you want to discuss.
Whether you're a seasoned plant enthusiast, an aspiring arborist or horticulturist, or simply someone who enjoys being outdoors, this tour offers something for everyone. Bring your curiosity, your horticulture and arboriculture questions, and, most importantly, your love for trees and plants.
