Professor Chris Hansen, a terrific colleague and outstanding leader as chair of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, has been named dean of Temple University’s College of Engineering. Chris was chosen following a national search and will assume his new role on Aug. 1.

Since arriving at UMass Lowell, Chris has distinguished himself as a collaborator within the Francis College of Engineering and among partners outside the university. He’s done an exceptional job in support of our programs in advanced manufacturing, as well as efforts that enhance workforce development and the success of our UMass Lowell students.

Among his many pursuits, Chris has served as UMass Lowell’s site director for the SHAP3D Industry University Cooperative Research Center driving innovation in the field of additive 3D printing. SHAP3D is a National Science Foundation-supported collaboration of industry, government and academia also involving the University of Connecticut, Georgia Tech and Arizona State University.

We will miss Chris tremendously. Please stay tuned for updates regarding Mechanical and Industrial Engineering. In the meantime, I hope you'll join me in thanking Chris for his many contributions to UMass Lowell and wishing him all the best in his new role.
