AICORE is an interdisciplinary hub for advancing artificial intelligence research — from foundational models to real-world deployment in defense, healthcare, robotics and beyond. The center is directed by Anna Rumshisky, an associate professor in the Miner School of Computer and Information Sciences.
The Center for Sports Engineering and Performance is bringing together interdisciplinary researchers, sporting goods manufacturers and sports leagues to enhance equipment design and athlete performance. This center builds on more than 25 years of leadership through the Baseball Research Center. It is directed by Patrick Drane, an associate research professor in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering.
AICORE and the Center for Sports Engineering and Performance join UMass Lowell’s strong portfolio of research and engagement centers. Together, these new centers build on UMass Lowell’s momentum as a Carnegie R1 research university, advancing high-impact research and expanding opportunities for collaboration, discovery and real-world application.
I encourage you to reach out to the center directors to explore opportunities to get involved and share ideas for collaboration. Please join me in welcoming AICORE and the Center for Sports Engineering and Performance as our university’s newest seed centers.
