We are pleased to share that UMass Lowell has formally established the Teaching and Clinical Faculty Laureate designation, a distinction recognizing the enduring contributions of our full-time teaching and clinical faculty.

This designation honors retiring faculty at the rank of full professor who have demonstrated sustained excellence in teaching, mentorship, and service to the university.

Teaching and Clinical Faculty Laureates will receive the same privileges and benefits as emeritus professors, including:

  • Library access (borrowing privileges and digital resources)
  • Retention of a UMass Lowell email account
  • Access to select university software systems
  • Access to the Campus Recreation Center (with required waiver)
  • Eligibility to purchase parking at the posted rate
  • Free use of UML shuttles and buses
  • Access to the Faculty Success Center, including workshops and shared spaces'
  • Bookstore discounts on university-branded items (excluding textbooks and select electronics)
  • Participation in the Learning in Retirement Association (LIRA)
  • Opportunities to mentor faculty and students

Nominations may be initiated by department chairs or through self-nomination and will follow the same review path as emeritus nominations, through the dean, provost, and chancellor.

This designation reflects our commitment to recognizing excellence across faculty roles and to maintaining lasting connections with colleagues who have made a significant impact on our students and the university.

Additional details regarding the nomination process will be shared with departments.

Thank you for your continued dedication to UMass Lowell.
