The Department of Mathematics and Statistics invites you to attend a colloquium lecture by Maxim Derevyagin from the University of Connecticut on Wednesday, April 22.

Title: Chebyshev Polynomials in Action
Time: 11 a.m. to Noon
Room: Southwick Hall, Room 350W

Everyone is welcome!

Abstract: In this talk, I’ll start with a friendly introduction to Chebyshev polynomials and some of their key ideas and properties. Then I’ll move on to questions related to quantum state transfer and show how Chebyshev polynomials helped to answer a question regarding speeding up the transfer time in quantum wires. To wrap up, I’ll talk about a generalization of Chebyshev polynomials to rational functions and examine how the corresponding properties manifest in this broader setting.
