Abstract: Mathematical modelling is an important step in process design and operation. In most chemical engineering systems, a complete model will often include multiple physical phenomena coupled together. In this talk, we will introduce COMSOL Multiphysics as a tool for creating such models. This workshop will include a general discussion of modeling as well as a live demonstration where we create model of a methane steam reformer. We will start by creating a model of in ideal (well-mixed) reactor and then scale up to a space-dependent model. The final model will have transport, reaction kinetics, thermodynamics, and fluid flow, all coupled together.
