I hope you are having a successful start to the Spring Semester. I also hope you are enjoying the Patriots’ dramatic return to excellence and continued success in the NFL postseason.

As we approach another Patriots Super Bowl, it felt important to send a brief note to encourage you all to keep yourselves and each other safe as you watch the game. Inevitably, the outcome will result in either excitement or disappointment. As a lifelong Patriots fan, I know my emotions will be strong, and I imagine yours might be too. Even so, while we have all seen reports of fans and students at other colleges reacting disrespectfully after championship wins or losses, that has never been our tradition or experience at UMass Lowell. In fact, our students have historically been respectful of each other, our neighbors and our campus. It is a point of pride for our campus, and I’m sure you will carry on that tradition again this year.

Please know that we are here to partner with you to keep our campus and surrounding neighborhoods safe, so we can all either fully enjoy a Patriots Super Bowl win or successfully move on from defeat.

Good luck with the rest of your semester and go Pats!
