The Office of Research Development (ORD) is now accepting proposals for the 2026 Internal Seed Grants program. The goal of the Internal Seed Grants fund is to support faculty in: (a) developing multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary collaborative efforts leading to sustainable research and scholarship; and (b) generating preliminary results, innovative ideas and high-quality scholarship or creative works that grow UMass Lowell’s research portfolio and capacity. These inquiries can include knowledge-making in any area including creative endeavors, pedagogy and inclusive excellence.

ORD plans to award up to five collaborative projects at up to $15,000 each. Funds are awarded for a two-year period (July 1, 2026 - June 30, 2028).

Only UMass Lowell tenured and tenure-track faculty are eligible to serve as lead principal investigators. Non-tenure-track faculty, such as adjunct faculty, are only eligible to participate as co-PIs. In most cases, lead PIs can only hold one award sponsored by the Office of Research Development at a time. An individual faculty member may serve as the lead PI on one proposal. They may participate as co-PI, collaborator or other role on one additional proposal.

Proposals must be submitted through InfoReady. The submission deadline for fiscal year 2026 is Wednesday, March 18, 2026 at 11:59 p.m.

The full solicitation including eligibility, guidelines and proposal requirements may be downloaded through the InfoReady portal under “Supporting Documents.”

Also, please join ORD for its Internal Funding webinar on Thursday, Jan. 29, from 2 to 3 p.m. where they will cover eligibility, proposal requirements, the guidelines regarding all ORD-sponsored funding and tips for submitting a competitive proposal. Register online for the Internal Funding webinar.
