As part of the university’s annual efforts to implement sustainability best practices and achieve cost savings during the Thanksgiving weekend and the intersession between the Fall and Spring semesters, operational adjustments will be made as follows:

On Friday, Nov. 28, following Thanksgiving, and again from Saturday, Dec. 20 through Sunday, Jan. 4, only business-critical functions necessary to support university operations, student success, recruitment and retention will remain active. Graduate, Online and Professional Studies (GPS) and in-person health counseling services will resume on Monday, Jan. 5, with full campus operations resuming on Wednesday, Jan. 7.

For staff members not required to work on campus during these periods, managers should work with employees to identify remote work opportunities during business days between the Christmas and New Year holidays, while also encouraging the use of available vacation leave time, consistent with applicable collective bargaining agreements and personnel policies.

Employees who are approved to work on campus, but whose offices or buildings are closed, should coordinate with department heads and managers to temporarily relocate to operational spaces as needed. Employees requiring special accommodation are encouraged to contact the Office of Equal Opportunity and Outreach.

Certain buildings, offices, and laboratories will remain open to support scheduled research activities and winter intersession student services. While building temperatures may be reduced for energy conservation, card access will be maintained for approved operational needs. All residence halls will remain open. Only students approved for winter break housing will have access during this period.

The university will continue to work closely with department leaders and researchers to further define critical operational requirements during these periods. A summary of campus operations will be shared in advance of the winter intersession.
